I’ve just dug one of these up in my garden. No seam on the lip, registered number 100848 embossed under the Bovril Limited logo & no embossing that states content weight. Neck is more than a little off centre/kilter so knew it must be old/hand made but would be delighted if it turned out to be circa 1890! Is that likely? Either way, it doesn’t really matter – if my sweet pea seeds ever decide to make much of an appearance this season, then it will make a lovely jar to house a few cut stems!
Hi Kristy, thanks for getting in touch. It does sound like an early one. The bottles were being machine manufactured by 1913.
Just dug one up in our garden in Pennsylvania.
I have a 4oz bottle that looks almost identical to this one with 393 embossed on the bottom. Do you know when this was from?
