Marbles from Codd Bottles

Marbles from Codd bottles. They were cast a dozen at a time and snapped from a central circular matrix and ground to smoothness by factory women. Children broke the necks off the bottles to get the marbles. This impacted on the rates at which the bottles were returned to the store, and, in an effort to combat this problem, an oval marble was patented, but it proved unpopular.
